Nike has backed Ronaldo since 2003, when he was an 18-year-old at Manchester United, and converted the relationship into a lifetime contract in 2016 — reported at more than $1 billion over its life. Lifetime deals are among the rarest structures in sports marketing: before Ronaldo, only Michael Jordan and LeBron James had one. The brand is underwriting his commercial relevance for decades past retirement.

The headline is widely misread. The "$1 billion" is a lifetime aggregate, not an annual payment. Documents published by Football Leaks showed the underlying ten-year structure paying roughly €16 million a year in guaranteed money plus around €4 million in performance bonuses — a large deal, but an order of magnitude below what the headline implies on a per-year basis. We carry the annual value at ~$18–25M and rate it Verified for existence, Estimated for the precise figure.

For net-worth purposes the deal matters twice. It anchors the ~$65 million a year Forbes attributes to his off-field income today, and it guarantees a post-retirement floor that almost no athlete has. When his Al Nassr contract expires in June 2027, Nike keeps paying.
