Why there are no totals on this page
Why does Ronaldo have no tattoos?
The explanation attributed to him is that tattoo recipients face temporary deferral periods before donating blood, and that he wants to stay eligible. He has also been reported as speaking about bone-marrow donation. Our sourcing for both is Portuguese press reporting rather than a blood service, a registry or a filing, which is why the entry above is rated Estimated. It is a small thing next to a billion-dollar fortune, and it is the part of his giving that gets quoted most.
The Madeira connection
Most of the documented Portuguese giving traces back to Madeira, where he grew up in Funchal in straitened circumstances. Funding for paediatric cancer treatment and intensive-care capacity, auctions of boots and a Ballon d'Or replica for medical causes, and relief donations after the 2010 Madeira floods all cluster around the island.
